Ritchie Tunstall

Ritchie Tunstall is the lead tutor and founder of Liverpool Drum Academy. He has been playing professionally for 20 years and teaching for over a decade.

Drumming since the age of 8, professionally playing for 20 years and teaching for over a decade; Ritchie is renowned for producing quality drum troupes all over the world.

Gaining a BA Hons in Music (L.I.P.A), Ritchie’s CV ranges from composing and performing for the Sugababes, to supplying drummers for organisations including:

  • Rugby Federation
    Football Association (FA)
    Everton F.C.
    Liverpool F.C.
    Manchester United

His passion for innovative music and community development is recognised nationally and internationally. Ritchie’s ability to foster a ‘family feeling’ within any group has taken him to deliver workshops across Europe, Brazil, the Caribbean and Palestine.

Ritchie’s teaching history also spans a decade as a Yamaha Kit Instructor, and founder of the Liverpool Drum Academy.

He also founded the former Batala Liverpool, and became Musical Director of Batala UK.

Keen to create his own drumming group with an inclusive and ethical ethos, in 2015 he co-founded Katumba with Juliana Pinheiro Landim.

As Musical Director Ritchie composes Katumba’s songs and arrangements, manages performances, bookings, and is a lead workshop facilitator, teacher and band leader.
